"Ah, the Battle of Osaka in Summer!"

1. It was in the morning May 6, Keicho 20 (1615),
that the army of Matabei Goto was moving for Mount Tamate,
of Kokubu, while running through the fog.

2. Having started in the middle of the night from Hirano,
they just passed by Fujii Temple, and would reach Tenmangu
soon, as they could see Konda Hill on the right.

3. The era of Toyotomi, to whom Matabei Goto was indebted,
would be almost terminated, as there was no room
for Toyotomi to get good chances for recovery.

4. However, Matabei Goto and his vassals were royal.
Though they knew they would hardly win, they gathered at
Domyo Temple in order to behead Tokugawa, the enemy's general.

5. At the break of dawn the time was ripe for a battle
in the field of Kawachi. They are anxious for arrival of
the friendly army of Sanada and Moori that was the main force.

6. There was nothing to do else but to make a sortie. The delay meant
the defeat. The friendly army of Hayatonosho Susukida was going
to attack on the right and the army of Matabei Goto in the center.

7. Though small were the army 2800 men of Matabei Goto,
they rushed toward Mount Kokubu, stabbing with spears
   the enemy that confronted them.

8. The enemy retreated once but pushed back
against the Goto's army. During a confused fight,
Matabei Goto was hit by a bullet in the chest and fell down.

9. It was all over then, thought Matabei. He ordered attendants
not to give his head to the enemy and killed himself
with perfect composure at Mount Komatsu.

10.Ah, the battle of Osaka in Summer!
Matabei Mototsugu Goto and the pick of his soldiers
   made themselves immortal.
