History of Nagoya City Museum

In celebration of the fact that in 1969 the city's population had topped the 2 million mark, a variety of events and projects was introduced by the City of Nagoya,one of these being the founding of the City Museum. The museum aims to highlight various historical aspects of the Owari region, where Nagoya is situated, from the prehistoric age to the present day.

The Collection

The Nagoya City Museum collection consists of private gifts from the people of the city and items purchased with funds from the city's budget.The collection is not merely of items relating to the history of the Owari region but also includes materials pertaining to Japanese history, while the items are valued under four different headings: archeology, history, fine arts and folklore.

Students(16 and over) : 200Yen
Children(under 16) : Free
An additional fee may be required for the special exhibition.

9:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.
No admittance after 4:30 P.M.
The museum is closed every Monday and the 4th Tuesday of each month. However if a national holiday falls on one of these days, the museum will open but be closed the following day instead. Also closed from Dec.29th to Jan. 3rd.
